My sons are 5.5 months old and I know not to give them dairy or eggs until they are at least a year. They have already been through all of the fruits and veggies, since they were four months old.

If you are meaning Whole foods then I would Wait until at least 6 teeth have come in. We learned the hard way that little ones shouldn't have solid foods untill they can chew it up. Stick with the mush for a bit longer. If you need a specific age then i would say 1 1/2 to 3 would be the place to start. keep going with the fruits and veggies but maybe try some instant oatmeal or some soft sherbert.

I started giving my son the level 2 gerber foods at about 5 months...the doctor said it was okay. My son is now 6 months and I just started him on the dinners. I have yet to give him the deserts....for some reason he doens't like fruit...so I just give him the veggies and meat!

My son is about 6 1/2 months and he eats everything but the ones that have meats in them. He eats some types of table food, too. We started rice cereal at 4 months, stage 1 foods at 5 months, and stage 2 at 6 months, because the size of the stage 1 jars weren't filling him up.

Just make sure the jars say no eggs or dairy added....When your baby is ready they are ready especially if they are already trying to chew!!! Try adding cereals into the mix for flavor, I gave my daughter Barley, Rice, Oatmeal and even the ones with the mixed fruit etc. (Don't feed Wheat Cereal until they are a 1 old in case of allergic reaction)....Talk to your pediatrician or a good book to get is Super Baby Food it gives you recipes of great dishes for the little ones.

Good Luck :-)

I started my daughter on the solid gerber foods at the age of 3 mos. My DR suggested that I waited until she was 4 mos old though. She is now 7 mos old and I am feeding her more off of my plate than I am the baby foods. I make sure that it is nothing that she can choke on and it is mushy in her mouth for it to be easy to swallow. You can either keep up with the gerber foods or try to feed them off of the table.

I'd check with your pediatrician. I'd like to say that as long as there are no allergy related issues, you should base what you can/cannot feed your baby on the texture of the food/how well they can eat it. Ex: If you baby has difficulty with younger foods of a certain texture, "older" food with a similar texture will give them the same problems.

BUT, there may be a digestion issue in giving "older" foods to a 5.5 month old.

Use this venue for suggestions, but check with a professional before you decide anything that can effect your baby.

We never fed our kids anything but mommy's milk until about 8 or nine months. At this point, they were ready for solids like mashed sweet potatoes and they never once had any gerber or any other prepackaged 'baby' food.

make your own, its better and cheaper. You should try them on something new every 3 days. If they are tolerating the fruits and veg, try introducing white fish or chicken, However i don;t think this is recommended till 7-9 months. Why don't you call your Ped and ask?
