"Sussudio", Phil Collins
According to Phil Collins, when he was on VH-1's Storytellers, Sussudio is an imaginary girl's name. The song is about having a crush on someone when you are young. He used Sussudio as a name to encompass any girl.

According to Phil Collins (when he performed on "VH-1 Storytellers: Phil Collins" on April 4, 1997), "suss-sussudio" came about as he was improvising lyrics to a drum machine track he had programmed: "suss-sussudio" was a wording that scanned well. After trying to find an alternative word to fit the rhythm, the singer decided to keep "Sussudio" as the song title and lyric. Collins has said that he "improvised" the lyric. Collins was just playing around with a drum machine, and the lyric "sus-sussudio" was what came out of his mouth. "So I kinda knew I had to find something else for that word, then I went back and tried to find another word that scanned as well as 'sussudio,' and I couldn't find one, so I went back to 'sussudio'", Collins said. According to Collins, the lyrics are about a schoolboy crush on a girl at school.

Collins got the title from his daughter, who had a horse she called "Sussudio." He thought it would work as a girl's name.
As was the rest of the album, this was recorded in Collins' living room shortly after he married wife #2.
When this was released in 1985, critics assailed Collins for its similarity with Prince's hit "1999." Collins responded by saying that he was a "big Prince fan" and that his original version of "Sussudio" sounded even more like Prince.
"Sussudio" is a girl's name in the lyrics, but it is also the name Collins gave to the song's drum track.
This was the second US #1 hit from the No Jacket Required album. The first was "One More Night."
According to Collins, this is about a young man's fantasy for an older woman. Because she smiles at him, he thinks she fancies him, and she becomes the object of his sexual fantasies. (thanks, Brad Wind - Miami, FL, for above 5)

"In The Air Tonight" is an awesome song. It makes me feel like Sonny Crockett driving the Ferrari, having flashbacks. "Against All Odds" deserves mentioning. I saw that movie a number of times with Jeff Bridges, and the sexy Rachel Ward.

It was something that he made up. He was writing the song, and needed something catchy, so he made up the lyric that would fit. I heard his discuss this on an interview back when the song was popular in the eighties.
