I am going into my ninth month, and I have recently heard that nipple stimulation brings on labor. I'm just curious on how and why it does this.... anyone know?

I don't recommend naturally inducing labor, as it could cause severe contractions, causing tearing of the uterus and damage to the baby.

Please talk to your doctor before trying any method of induction.

Below is a site that has indormation on nipple stimulation... But, agian... talk with your doctor BEFORE any method of induction.

Some people say that nipple stimulation brings on labor by stimulating the production of a hormone , starts with an "o" oxysomething.Never worked for me......

Not sure on how or why, but it does make your uterus contract. When I was trying hard to start my own labor, I'd lay in the tub forever doing nipple stimulation. My uterus would contract on rub-command, but real labor never caught on. Un-gentle sex, however, was my kicker.

suppousedly it releases oxytocin into your blood stream (this is the hormone that starts your labor). it's suppoused to be stimulated as if a newborn was suckling, so you could try using a breast pump to see if that would work (i'm trying that as soon as i get mine in the mail so we'll see how it works). i read somewhere that, that is the best thing to try. good luck to you...

Im pregnant with my second baby and Ive never heard that. I breast fed my 4 year old and I never had cramps Ive heard that baby batter in the 9th or 10th month triggers it because they go for the plug.
