I'm looking to buy my first sewing machine and serger, but I want to know if anybody knows if there is 1 machine that is both, I have limited space, so I need to optimize.

Yes, I think so. Try Bernina or Pfaff. But here's a thing to remember: you can remove the knife from the serger and sew flat seams with it, too.

No, although some sergers will do a chainstitch which can be used in place of a straight stitch from a regular sewing machine. There are several different types of sergers you can get though, with different numbers of threads, all the way from 4 to 9. I'm not sure about the various types of industrial sewing machines and sergers.

I also have limited space, but I already had one of each when I moved into this place. I keep them on a single table, but I use my serger less than my sewing machine, so it mostly stays off to the side.

i would have to say yes try walmart or your local hobby shop they will be able to give you beter advice on what is a good one
