The #1 cause of low performance in a converted system is air and/or moisture in the system. In order for ANY 134a converted A/C system to work properly one must change the recover/drier then flush the old oil out, refill with proper amount of ester oil, then be vacuumed down for at least 10 min, leak down tested, then refilled to approximately 80% of the r12 max.
The A/C system is like a tire, if it goes flat, there is a leak, no exceptions.
There are many other factors that come into play here too, is your compressor even comming on, do you have an electrical fault, are your climate controls working correctly.
Unfortunately amature attempts at conversions and recharging with out proper equipment has given 134a an underserved bad rap.

Don't play around with things you don't understand. How do you know its low? Do you have a proper a/c recovery unit? How do you know it isn't a electrical fault? Is the compressor working? In Canada you need to be licensed to play around with air conditioning units so morons like you don't vent gases into the atmosphere. You have to make sure the unit will hold a vacuum first before you fill a a/c unit. It's illegal here to charge a system with a leak. But who knows what you can do in the states when any joe of the street can pick up a wrench and start working on cars..

I have to agree that the info is a little short, but try a few basics before taking it to a shop. Make sure the compressor is running. Check your belts that turn it. It's possible that the low pressure switch is bad. That is relatively inexpensive to repair, but you will lose all of your freon when you remove it. When all else fails, call your local garage.

Did you pull a vacum on your a/c system before adding freon?
Probably not, but if so, how long did it hold a vacum?
Best bet is to go to a mechanic. It takes so expensive tools to do a system check. The a/c machine for pulling the vacum and recharging, and a freon leak detector. Could possibly have a bad compressor, or number of other problems.

You have a leak in your AC system.
try a stop leak/oil/lubrication for the AC system
then put some more freeon.
if that doesnt do it..your vacuum lines are bad

Do you even have a compressor? have you checked to see if it's present? Does it turn on? Better take it to the cheapest mechanic you can find.
