Pick up the police report and the accident report if it has been completed. Contact the police to see if they have followed up on your case. You need to pressure the police department to do some of the work for you. The address of the owner should be on the report. It appears the vehicle has not been reported stolen, this is a good thing. I would try to persuade to police to continue the investigation, you are a victim. If all else fails use the address on the police report of who the vehicle belonged to. Go to the owners insurance company and see if they will replace your car. If all else fails file a civil suit against the owner of the vehicle and the insurance company. Its not going to be an easy task and it will not happen quickly. You really don't have to hire an attorney to file the case but you can hire one to handle your case if you wish. Good luck!

You would have to file suit against them to get any money. The police may be willing to charge them with leaving the scene of an accident, but if the car was driven by theives you're out of luck. Her insurance does not have to pay you, and neither does she.

FYI, when people walk away from a wrecked car before the police come, it is often because it is stolen.

Yes take your report to a lawyer they will help you obtain settlement for your loss. You can try to contact the responsible owner's insurance yourself but will most likely get a run around so contact a lawyer.

Absolutely. Get a lawyer. They are responsible for the accident that's the simple fact. You need to get a different insurance company if they didn't tell you that.
