no...it's not popular because it's really really REALLY old.
They started the original "how many licks" commercial in the 70's

It's perhaps we no longer live in a simplier time. Who has time to see how many licks it takes to get to the center? I mean, we are so busy we have to have phones in on cars, on our persons, etc. We cannot relax for a moment.
