I don't know what you've read or what kind of books you like, so this is hard! But I like Pride & Prejudice (Austen), Cordelia's Honor (Bujold), Interpreter of Maladies (Lahiri), I Know This Much is True (Lamb) off the top of my head.

Robert Heinlein - Stranger in a strange land. Parts of it were censored when it first came out in the USA (I have 3 different copies, with slightly different versions, over the years).

Or try - The Thomas Covenant Trilogy, by Stephen Donaldson - great if you like to hate the main character.

You should look into some 20th century classics. Salman Rushdie's "The Satanic Verses" is endlessly stimulating to the intellect. Milan Kundera and Julio Cortizar also write beautiful novels that are intellectual heavyweights.

You should definitely read "Go Ask Alice." There's some crazy stuff in that book. Everyone should read it at least once in their lives. It's about a teenage girl who gets hooked on drugs.

Sidheartha, not sure who the author is... I read this book when I was your age and it changed my life (it's really thick with philosophy).
