I usually run in New Balance because they make great motion control shoes and they have every size and width. I have also had some sucess with Adidas, Reebok and Saucony. I loved Nike when I was in high school and college, but they seem to add fancy looking things (like shox,) to their shoes and then charge too much and I would still buy them, but I cannot find a comfortable pair. A lot of people swear by Asics and they are probably good for most people, but every time I wore a pair of them in a marathon, I got blood blisters and lost toenails. The toe box is too narrow for my long second toes. If you do choose Asics, you should know that they are usually sized too small, so try on several sizes before buying them.

Mizuno, New Balance.. there are many. You might want to go to a specialty sports shoe store and have them profile your foot and running pattern, how your foot strikes the ground etc. Accordingly they can suggest a good shoe to wear. You can try out different brands too. It's a better method than asking people on Yahoo Answers. hehe..
Good luck.

Not Nike. They make a great basket ball shoe but their running shoes are awful.
Asics and New Balance are great. I like the Asics gel series.
go to this site, they have a section called 'shoe dog'. you can enter your weight, running style, and training style, and it recommends shoes for you. It also has reviews from runners and info on proper sizing.

Asics are rather sturdy for working. they have a lot of help. I had a stress fracture this summer season from working in shoes without sturdy help and replaced into out for 2 months. So be sure you have sturdy shoes! Haha
