Anyone think that things are really tense between these two teams after Eaton hit Rivera in Anaheim and got ejected in first inning and just yesterday Vicente Padilla hit Guerrero on the wrist, Rivera got hit in the ribs, and Wes Littleton almost hit Guerrero near end of the game. Today Michael Young and Freddy Guzman got hit in the 8th back to back. In the ninth Scott Feldman hit Kennedy, the benches and bullpens cleared and Feldman had a right handed uppercut waiting just for Kennedy. In the past 2 days there have been a total of 9 or 10 ejections total and suspensions are surely coming soon. I sure wouldn't mind seeing that Angels spare that crowds the plate with his elbow guard, the one thats having his best season to go along his mediocre career, hmmm think his name is Rivera or something.

Yeah it was funny and yeah it'll stir things up between the two teams. They both have the same record and are tied for 2nd place in the AL West. This series and their remaining games this season are very important. This just adds fuel to the fire.

The AL West teams see each other way too much. The Angels got chippie with the Athletics as well. Partly frustration and partly familiarity breeding contempt. Happens this time of year. No doubt the Red Sox and D'Rays will throw down before the season is over. In rare instances like the July 24, 2004 game between the Red Sox and the Yankees, not that I have etched it into memory or anything, the Red Sox won the fight and turned their season around. Usually, it is just a symptom of frustration, like the Angels and Rangers, both chasing the Athletics.

So long as both of these teams stay in a playoff race, you won't see it this year. There's too much at stake to have somebody ejected in September. But I wouldn't be surprised to see some more retaliation if one of them falls off the pace (Texas) or to see some of this bad blood spill over into next year.
