Today depending on your requirement, there are laptops starting from $399 to $3K. If it is 2-3 years course, I would recommend a robust machine and spend about $1500 and go for best config as of date. If you are going to study science and do programming go for Dual Core processor with atleast 1GB Ram, 100GB HD, DVD-CD/RW. Sound card and all that.
