what is it inherently that makes a man a partner in humanity and seperate from the animal kingdom, if indeed he is?

Humans (notice I didn't say "man" since the majority of the population of earth is female) have the power to reason. That is the difference between us and them. Although, I think there are some rather smart animals out there these days compared to humans. I never knew an animal that choked on a pretzel while watching T. V. in the White House. : )

Man is an animal , just more highly developed than some of the others in certain ways.

Humans decide how they choose to live, while animals react primarily through instinct.

Of course, that definition of animal depends on IQ. Higher IQ animals, like dolphins, whales, orangutans, etc., may react on similar levels as people.

We are animals as well...just language and big brains. We have the quick adaptations skills to utilize and control other animals.
