Wash it well with baking soda and water. Then leave an open box of Baking soda in the freezer.

The above is info I found on About.com. Apparently, someone turned off a fridge and there was chicken in the freezer... It was left for days.. the owner tried everything to get the odor out (which stunk up the house, too) and this was the only thing that worked.

(So) wash it well with Baking Soda.

Is your freezer an older model. If so, there may be a small crack or rust spot where liquid may have seeped. Sometimes, it's something in the fridge that has gone bad. You probably need to take everything out of both and wipe down with a warm rag and Lysol kitchen cleaner. Throw out anything that's older than 6 months. That includes all those bottles in the door.

depends is it a chest or upright? For a chest freezer take everything out. Pour in some charcoal or kitty litter with charcoal and unplug it. Clean up that mess thouroughly with vinegar and water and you should be good to go. When you plug back in though be sure to use baking soda to avoid future problems
