this takes alot of practice. first, there is an imaginary line from the corner closest to first base of the rubber on a 45 degree angle. you can not step on or past this line (toward the plate) and throw to first. second, your RIGHT FOOT can not cross your left leg and throw to first. now, you need to practice stepping on that 45 degree line and keep walking toward first. this makes it harder for the umpire to tell where your foot landed. practice keeping your head turned toward home plate and throwing to first. i would normally stare at the runner, turn my head toward home and then deliver the ball to first. if you have a good umpire you can bring your KNEE behind your left leg and throw to first, but most bush league umpires will call a balk so you need to be careful on this one. good luck and let me know (email) if this made any sense at all or if you need me to try again.

show a crappy pickoff move, making the runner think your move is bad....then he gets a few more steps, then give your best pickoff throw....pickoffs take a lot of practice

do a snap throw.....thats when u step off the rubber (While in the stretch.) with your left leg and whip the ball over to 1st as quickly as possible.....or just do what andy pettite does.....which is a borderline balk......

Wait until the runner is off the bag, then throw it over there REAL fast.
