The Republicans plan on using the "we can protect you" method this election. They plan on using FEAR MONGERING to SCARE us into voting for them. At the same time many experts have noticed that Bush is using these same tactics to dwindle away our freedoms under so called "national security".

Now this link I have is very interesting. I think it makes a lot of sense and points out what methods are being used.

Do you agree with this video? http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/august2006/150806thenexus.htm
Or do you think it's just a bunch of crap?

Hey FR CHUCK. What ever happened to "let he who has no sin cast the first stone"

Or what about "thou shall not judge".
Try to practice what you preach, and please leave the alter boys alone.

Isn't that obvious by now?

But as to your first link, while it's fairly blatant that the government is trying to use the media and spin its successes to garner political support, I don't think it's staging the incidents. Rather, it's just spinning them and making a big media hype (like the cell phone cases in Ohio and Texas) before any facts get verified. Then, in the situations where they find out they were wrong, they just quietly drop the matter and rely on the short attention span of the audience to forget. It's standard political tactics -- take advantage of what gives you good coverage, and distract from what doesn't help your case.

As for the second link, the Florida group had no weapons and no plans. But they were still guilty of conspiracy to commit terrorism, because they had the intent and the agreement, and had taken steps to try and get weapons. The fact that they were too incompetent to succeed doesn't make them less guilty of the attempt.

It's not incidents like these that are the problem. It's the general fear-mongering that allows people to blindly accept the government's assertions without ever bothering to check for themselves what is really happening.

Yes, Virginia, there really are terrorists. And yes, they are a threat. But that hasn't changed in the past several decades, or the past several centuries. What has changed is that we're allowing those threats to herd us into a culture of fear, where we sacrifice our liberties on the altar of illusions security.

And what's worse than all of that is the government violating our own laws to do it. It's not like most of the population wouldn't just hand over the reigns anyway and allow the laws to be changed. The administration doesn't even bother changing the laws to seize the power it wants, because it can count on the apathy and gullibility of the American people to excuse this criminal behavior.

Yes, there really are terrorists. And yes, they are a threat. But there are ways to fight them without stooping to their level, and without abandoning the constitutional values this country was founded upon.

I remember President Clinton being accused of the same sort of thing; bombings or shooting cruise missiles when he was in political hot water. I also remember a lot of Republican types believing it, just as Democrat types are believing this about President Bush now.
It seems like more and more people pretty much believe what they want to believe. If your a Democrat you probably want to believe that Bush and the Republicans are bad people up to no good. So you will take whatever information you have and make it fit into whatever sinister right wing plan you have imagined.
Whatever you do, don't be open minded. Don't believe anything but the worst about Republicans. Because the "good" of Democrats is dependent on the relative "bad" of Republicans, right? Therefore, the worse Republicans are, the better Democrats are....for they are a party defined by comparisons.

I saw that video as well. I think it's been obvious for years that the Bush administration uses fear to control and gain power.

Just check out how many times Bush says "terrorists" when he speaks. And earlier this week he said, "America is safer, but still not safe." What the hell?

I think a true leader would encourage confidence instead of fear. I guess Bush doesn't remember the FDR speech about how we have nothing to fear but fear itself.

Bush is a coward who exploits terrorism (which was around long before he was president) to control the blind followers who will give up their freedoms for his promise of safety. If he's really worried about our safety - why hasn't he secured our borders? If we're really in that much danger - someone would've snuck in with something by now.

I don't know which is sadder - this administration's exploitation of fear....or the blind followers who accept and support a leader who has nothing but fear to offer them.

They sad thing is it is like crying wolf! No threat in the government ever issued turned out to be credible, including the kids in the warehouse! I refuse to believe them. I don't want the government screwing with my liberties!

They only plot they were warned about, the didn't tell us, nor did they intervene, and that was 9/11!

Yeah, you gotta wonder where all this is leading to. It seems like "1984" is getting closer and closer. I think the President is getting some bogus advice. People are taking advantage of him because of his slow wit--for personal gain.

of the democrats view that the poor people are all victims of something, immigration, race, or something and that they are not able to do anything about it on thier own and they have to have the great government come save them.

If that is not a scare tatic I don't know what is.

Or the adds always warning people that rep are gong to do away with thier retirement benifets and the such. pure scare politics.

And no, terrorist are real and wish to destroy america, second only to the ACLU terrorist are the largest threat to the existance of America

It is, in fact obvious, that scare tactics are constantly used in politics. How about this one, "George Bush is eroding the Constitution and soon we'll be in a police state. Your civil liberties are at STAKE!!!!!!!". It's used on both sides.

For example see below, "1984 is getting closer and closer". Scare tactic? I think so.
