In most cases, not really. I've taken vitamins countless numbers of times without eating first (or even just after taking).

yeah, it matters
artificial vitamin A irritates the stomach. when artificial vitamin A is prescribed, it says take with food or else you're risking to devolop a serious stomach problem (at least, for the kind I had to take). while centrum is not prescription strength, there is a similar concern

If you're trying to take a multi-vitiman as a substitute for food -- NO, that is not ok.

I would take it with food........it helps the stomach. Some people get sick if they dont take with food. You can just eat a couple crackers, a piece of dry toast or a little milk if u dont want to eat a meal.

I've heard that it makes your stomach hurt if you don't eat with it. I take them AFTER eating and my stomach still hurts, but thats just me. Also, I think taking it with food helps it dissolve better and you get the most out of the vitamins that way.

If you dont want to throw up it matters. Its only because it WILL make your stomach upset.. Just eat some cheese or crackers or something.
