Some evangelicals believe so. Personally, NO, I don't believe homosexuality is a sin at all. He wanted us to love everyone and be loved by everyone. Hatred is the true sin.
Why do people make a big deal out of it? Because they're bigots that can't handle diversity. The unknown is a bit frightening for the average homophobic person. They believe it is "disgusting" perhaps because they believe that sexual intercourse that is not intended for procreation is disgusting. Some religious people truly think that sex isn't for pleasure, it's really just to procreate, and that pleasure is just a side advantage that isn't necessary. So when they come across a couple that can never biologically have children and willfully have sex merely for pleasure, they deem it as sinful, just as they'd do with masturbation. "Spilling of the seed" without the intent to carry on the human race.
Personally, I see their perspective, but I don't necessarily disagree with it.
Procreation is nice, but what's life without love? Denying your sexuality and happiness to have a few more children to populate the world with isn't much of a life to live.
It's sad to see people worrying about things like preventing gay marriage from becoming legal when there are far worse issues to consider in the world, such as national security, the "fight against terrorism," world hunger-- those things that Republicans should focus on fighting, instead of homosexuality.
In short, I think... people are always speaking of tolerance, yet many have so little themselves. Being tolerant of issues and different groups of people does not necessarily make them a supporter, just not an adversary. It wouldn't mean those people would suddenly start picketing for gay rights, just that they'd stop picketing AGAINST them.
I just think... some people are willfully ignorant. They know that there are great, homosexual people are out there, yet they feel they must place labels on them and ignore the fact that homosexuals and heterosexuals are the same in many aspects, aside from their chosen life partners.
It'd be a better world when this question isn't even asked anymore. When homosexuality becomes so... not an issue that people don't worry about what's sin and what's not, especially in this context. Everyone's a sinner, so who are they to judge?

Your question is complicated.
Officially:
Look, if Jesus is your friend maybe he'll forgive you for forever being gay. Anyone who's addicted to something is not as guilty. That's not really the issue here.
My take and the hopeful view of many religious persons:
God love you. You aren't really breaking any commandments, but rather rules passed down on how to live a fruitful healthy life. You can take that several ways. I want to point out, however, that being gay is never going to be as "easy" as being straight (the status quo). So, that makes this a good rule. Further, no matter how much people accept this understanding of God, there will always be people who look at gay and think "disgusting." That's probably just because their minds are over busy thinking about sex. It's really none of their bussiness. BUT, this also make the rule good. That's my point and I'm sticking to it.
Our hope is that God doesn't judge people by sexual orientation. Only our understanding of God backs this up though, so the term "sin" still menaces the community. I wish I could be more positive on the churches take, but that's what it is.
We could go further into why it is that way, and in the end, it may just be that way, to push bisexual people toward "hetero" behavior, and thus avoid being stigmatized. Also, to prevent a stigmatized subculture and the possibility of abuse in minors that would cause homosexuality. There are many reasons that being gay is harder, and I think God understands, and really thinks it would be easier to be celibate or married for most people.
I could make a proof for either side, but I like my loving God theory better. Don't you?
In the end though, I have to point out that many churches call it a sin, so, you have been warned.

I don't think it's any more a sin than anything else consenting adults do...probably less than some things...I don't know why people don't have any of their own business to attend to and want to bother gays...I am a straight man...but what's the big deal about that?..the only person's sex life I am concerned with is my own and since I am not doing anyone then I have no worries! The gay marriage thing didn't make any sense to me either, the way they made such a big deal of it...I've been married twice...why not let gays be as miserable as the rest of us??? I know that sounds kinda funny but in a way it's true...everyone chooses for themselves who they are in this life...if some people don't like it then that's just tough...

NO it is not a sin. Evil motives create sin; not orientations. Some people make a big deal out of it because they are afraid of what they don't understand. Some people just like being hateful and closed-minded. But set your sights upon the people who treat life with love and compassion. I believe there is more good in the world than evil.

That's a complex question. I have never heard that the Bible addresses lesbian sex. This may be because women in biblical times did not have a much greater position than cattle or other possessions.
Certainly it is not addressed in the New Testament.
So, no, by error of omission lesbian sex is not a sin.

People pick and choose which verses of the Bible they feel are appropriate or applicable. Leviticus is the most-cited, which also declares that eating shellfish, touching a woman during her menstrual cycle, and wearing cloth woven of two different fabrics are abominations. Individuals should find their own way to be right with God and not worry about other people's judgments.
Good luck!

I used to struggle with the same problem. As a Christian I was told that it was evil,sick,sin-full and abomination to God. After much studying of The KJV Bible, I have realized that the bible didn't condemn loving and committed gay relationships. It condemned rape, orgies, ritualistic orgies, and male prostitution.
As far as the Ex-Gay Christian movement goes. I have known some one who has claimed to have "changed".
I believe that one can deny who they are ,but deep inside they still feel those feelings.
I can only give my point of view as a Christian who happens to be gay. I'm not sure what your religion is , so my answer may not be use full. but if you wanna talk email me at ritchiedotson@yahoo.com

The word 'sin' actually means 'to miss the mark' or 'to misunderstand'. This word has become highly charged as applied in modern usage, but the original meaning spoke to a lack of wisdom or understanding.

THE WORD " S I N " IS DEFINED BY THE SOCIETY THAT YOU WE (YOU) LIVE IN
DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE ARE
SOCIETIES THAT WOMEN HAVE TO
COVER THEIR HAIR, OTHERWISE IT IS
CONSIDERED A " S I N " TO SHOW YOUR
HAIR ... WOMEN IN THIS TYPE OF SOCIETY
MUST COVER THEIR HAIR IN ORDER NOT
TO BE CONSIDERED >>> SINNERS <<<
I LIVE IN A SOCIETY WHERE IF I GO TO WAR
AND K I L L MANY MEN (PEOPLE) WHEN I
RETURN FROM WAR I WOULD BE GIVEN A
"BLUE RIBBON OF HONOR"
VERY PRESTIGIOUS ... BUUUUUT IF I "LOVE"
ONE CONSENTING ADULT OF THE SAME SEX
I AM OSTRACIZED AND CONDEMNED BY SOCIETY .... DOES THAT MAKE SENSE !!!!!!
SO AS YOU CAN SEE HOMOSEXUALITY IS NORMAL AND NOT A SIN ... ONLY WHEN MEN
(RELIGIOUS OR NOT) PUT A LABEL AS TO WHAT IS CONSIDERED A "SIN"
DID YOU KNOW THAT WE STILL HAVE LAW IN OUR BOOKS STATING THAT SODOMY IS PUNISHABLE BY INCARCERATION ???
THIS LAWS WAS WRITTEN FOR BOTH GAY AND STRAIGHT PEOPLE ...
(AGAIN A LAW WRITTEN BY MEN)
HOW COULD "L O V I N G" ANOTHER HUMAN BEING BE SINFUL ???
RELIGION CONDEMNS GROUPS IN ORDER TO CONTROL THE MASSES.

You're OK, don't worry. Christians will tell you (and anybody who isn't one of them) that you are a sinner. But many of them live in the church and do whatever they want, and put on a good act pretending they are holy, so don't pay any attention. Besides, they base their beliefs on bigotry and hatred for the most part -- oh yeah, and fairy tales from the bible that have never been proved.
Pat yourself on the back -- you're fine!
