What is so wrong with the way things used to be? Woman looking and acting like ladies, it disgusts the way some girls and women act these days. Why can't people take pride in manners, a nice appearance, etiquette? This goes for men as well.

I agree, it is the media, the majority of the celebrities have no idea of what a "lady" is.

I guess you have to define "the way things used to be". Ok, so I'm probably old enough to be your mother - when I was in my teens we burned our bras, and started going without. We wore hip hugger ripped jeans with 4" zippers and peasant tops baring our mid-drift (guess that they call "muffin top" now). We have "free love", Woodstock, and wanted to open our own doors, thank you very much. We were the forerunners to what you are, and our mothers wrung their hands and our best ripped clothes "disppeared" after the wash. Our dads had lots of tattoos from the war (that's world war II and Korea), and flattop hair. So I look at today's teens, and I see, straight hair (looked just like me from the 70's), peasant blouses, low slung jeans (little lower than ours, we didn't have so shave to wear hip huggers), the boys have tattoos (although so many more than our dads, but check out the huge ship tattoo from South Pacific the movie) and flattop hair. The only difference is that my generation still had respect, and that's been lost. So that real question is, why do we have such little respect for ourselves and for others - and my answer is that, when I was growing up, the future looked bright - but I think for people in their teens and 20's, the future looks grim. Thus, personal gain and climbing over everyone else is paramount.

One word; MEDIA.

For i know, SOME guys out there are acting more & more like some of the guys in music video, perverted & ask for any random girl`s number. Some of them especially look at every girl`s boobies or booties then chase after them if they see something they like & yeah, i think you know what i mean. But im saying "SOME", not ALL so i hope you guys arent gna get offended. So some women show cleavage & stuff to get the attention that they crave for.

These days, there are billboards, mags, tv, music videos, songs blah blah blahh that talks & shows the "perfect" women that has big boobies, booties, skinny waist, full lips, big eyes, blah blah blah, you name it. So everyday, women are busy wasting time from tryna get as close to that "perfect women" image as much as possible and one way of that is by wearing clothes that shows skin & another is by acting as if they are "freaks".

Media changed so much over the years...so does the people.

I think the whole image of being a lady went down the tubes when the 60's, 70's and 80's came around. However, I think it is a shame that no one has respect for themselves anymore. I try to act like a lady but it seems to be getting harder and harder. And men! Don't even get me started. All they are looking for is a twig with a big cheast! It is very frustrating.

I agree. When ever I have dressy clothes on people are like" are you going out? or where r u goin? i sometimes wish things were the way the used to be, to have a nice appearance, fixed hair, nice manners. on the other hand sometimes there is nothing like throwing on a pair of sweats & flip flops after a hard day of work

I like the way you think. For reference purposes, I am 26.

I remember walking around in my grandmother's kitchen with a book (or two or three as I got older) on my head. She thought every woman should know how to do this. I can still walk with a book on my head today, in heels.
I was at a restaurant once with my husband and some friends, and one of them remarked that I must be bored because my back wasn't touching the chair. I had no idea.
I was sitting are a bridal shower once and I was wearing an above-the-knee skirt. A girls asked if my kness hurt becuase I was sitting with my ankles crossed.

Things like this come natural to me. Mainly becuase of my grandmother, but my own mother encouraged the behavior at home, as well as classes I took as a teen for beauty and modeling. My daughter already tries to act like mommy. I see her sitting at her table with her ankles crossed. She's 3.

I think the main reason people forgot these simple things is related to women wanting to show the world that they can do whatever a man can. I'm a feminist myself, but not hardcore. I believe we can do anything a man can do, but I don't think we should ever forget that we are still women. I've walked on stage in heels, I've modeled in a magazine, I've taken classes in beauty, charm, and fashion. I've also torn down plaster walls, hung drywall, done a break job on a car, and I've been happy doing all of them. I think that we can be women with class and style without needing to look like an exotic dancer. I believe we can sweat beside a man in the mud, but we don't have to scratch and spit while we do it.

Just because it's a different time doesn't mean that manners and etiquette should be throwen out the window.
I think our world would do good to learn a few manners and put them to use

I totally agree with you-women used to be glamorous and beautiful without having to dress like hookers. There is too much pressure nowadays to have the right body, wear the right clothes, etc. Women seem to have lost respect for their bodies, and it sucks. I see pics of grandmother when she was my age...she would have her hair done everyday, a dress on, perfect make up, etc. but she looked so elegant. I'm only 26, but even in my lifetime I have seen things go downhill in terms of women degrading themselves.

i really dont know. we live in a society today whare everything is for the men. really look at the media and the music . the messages are not good ones, they are demeaning to women! its teaching young boys that having a girl with a big booty is better than a girl with a big heart! and its teaching girls that you have to be a certin way to get a guy. our who society is just messed up when it comes to body images.

I take pride in dressing nicely and making sure I am 'acceptable'. It irks me though how women get all upset about some guy leering at them and 'undressing' them with his eyes. If she wasn't showing her @ss crack and thong maybe he wouldn't be ogling her! SHEESH! So help me if my daughter EVER dresses that way, she's headed straight to the convent! Mark my words!

Parents are to lazy when it comes to raising their children. Laws make parents afraid to properly discipline kids now-a-days.Steroids injected in our foods these days make them look to grown, society wants them to look like adults providing these reveling clothes, and TV teaches them a behavior that lacks control, manners and values. Not to mention babies having babies no time for anyone to teach our future anything about manners.
