You should just give them a call at their office (if you don't go to the school yet, you should start by calling the admission's office found on school's websites. Then you can call the department head in the major you're going to pursue---e.g the Econ. Dept or Bio Dept. etc.). Calling will probably bring a quicker answer to your questions then e-mail anyways.

No. It's NOT going to bother them. they have office hours for a reason----to answer questions for students.

There are many reasons that proffessors don't answer e-mails.

1. Sometimes, they don't check e-mail often, especially during summer break.
2. many professors may not teach every semester---so they may not check their school email after a term's over.
3. They could be abroad doing speeches or research.
4. Your heading just may not occur to them as urgent, so they put it off.

Don't take offense, it's probably not your fault.

If you're contacting them during the summer months - remember, they may not even see your e-mail until the day before classes start since they might not have summer classes and won't be on campus. That could be why you haven't received a reply.

Probably the worst thing you can do is call. If they aren't there, they won't get your message until classes start. And if you're overseas, most universities and colleges only allow long-distance calls or international calls for college or university-related business.

So, don't think a professor is ignoring your message - there's a very good chance they haven't even seen it since they haven't been on campus.

if its about writing email make it short and hit the point
i also think if you are applying at overseas university let say u.k go to the British embassy or commission in your country they will give you a list of universities or British council
also you sometimes the professors are on holiday till the another semi star or term
you should also make sure you sent your inquiry at the right department and the right person who is concerned about it
hope this will help.

First of all, please learn grammar before you do anything else. I take it that you're a foreigner applying to the US? Most professors don't even bother with e-mails that have bad grammar or punctuation.

Try calling the professor directly. If you have any questions about admission, try calling the admission department. You can find the phone number on the college's website. Google the name of your college to find their website.
