Just like female humans produce an egg every month, so do hens, but much more frequently than that. If human eggs arent fertilized, we start menstration, if a chicken egg isnt fertilized, they lay it anyway.
Roosters do not encourage egg production, and you do not need one to get the hen to lay eggs. The hen will lay non fertilized eggs almost every day. What you need to get to ensure your chicken is getting the food necessary to lay eggs is laying food. I buy that for my chicken and she lays all year round. They do eventually run out of egg cells and stop laying, a term known as "spent".

LET ME TELL YOU CHICKENS LAY EGGS AT SERTAIN TIMES OF THE YEAR, WITH OUT A ROOSTER THE EGGS DONOT GET FERTILIZED, SO IF THE REASON YOU WANT EGGS IS TO EAT THEM GO AHEAD IF THERES NO ROOSTER. OH AND THOSE PEOPLE THAT ARE SAYING THAT THEYLL LAY MORE EGGS IF THERES A ROOSTER, DONT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!! NO MATTER WHAT YOUR CHICKEN OR CHICKENS WILL LAY EGGS ON A DAILY BASIS OH, MAKE SHURE THE CHICKENS FOOD HAS SOME VITAMINS OR ELSE THEY WILL EAT THEIR EGGS... GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Nope, not unless you want to be eating fertilized eggs! (Gross) The hens will lay the same amount of eggs regardless of the presense of a rooster.

You only need a rooster if you want the eggs fertile so they'll hatch. The hens will produce more eggs if he's around but just like any other male, he's not needed.
Only for the fun stuff.....LOL

Having a rooster around encourages egg production.

No unless you want to incubate the eggs. Roosters are just there to look pretty if you're not going to attempt to hatch chicks.

Nope! They can lay eggs just won't be fertilized. However I do keep a rooster because I like to hear them crow... My morning alarm.

No, you don't need the rooster, but the hens will produce more eggs if he's around.

I don't think so. I am not a chicken expert, but human females don't need a male to release eggs.
