How can the British Monarchy be abolished legally. Who has the power to do do. Can the people vote on it? How can people start such a process. Do they have to go thorugh courts or direct elections? Thanks for doing your research and posting your findings.

Thanks for the reply Michael D. I'm not starting a revolution. I'm just curious about the legalities. Do the people have the power to abolish the British monarchy, as simple as that? I have no vested interest. It's a simple question.

My simple question is, Do the people even have the power to abolish the British Monarchy. I have no vested interest. I'm just curious because, when politicians talk about freedom & democracy why do they have to put up with a monarchy. Thanks for some replies like "It doesn't hurt anyone to have a monarchy" or "It's been that way ever since" etc. The question is very simple, do the people have the power to abolish the monarchy. The British Monarchy has no power. They're just a bunch of figureheads. The real power lies in the Parliament which is supported at least in half by the common folk. I'm not sure about the House of Lords, but those over in the UK seem pretty happy with their type of government, so don't start instigating a revolution when the majority is happy.

I do think that the Crown was voted for. Without Parliament it would not have won. I don't think it can be voted against until the next transfer of power. The queen is old and there will be a change within the next 10 to 20 years. I guess we wait to see if a vote on the new throne will take place or if only if a new family succeeds Elizabeth II.

Three ways...

One: overthrow current government , Has to been done!~ AND (once or twice)in England!

Two: House of Commons or House of Lords probably one or the other, or both need to introduce and vote either unanimously or some percentage forget who's allowed or must start process... remember historically speaking their regent used to wield power, and only fairly recently did Commons vote on anything mean anything! So probably House of Lords show...

Three: Have a popular Queen pass away leaving an undesired Prince- oops sorry he may already be bypassed(out of touch) but
that would revert to one or two anyway(sorry- couldn't resist but I've tipped a few with their Royal marines and had to stand their 'Yankee doodling'- pay back time!).

who cares??...god save the queen....although i do find it a little troubling for someone that has no vested interest to be so concerned....well, it may not be a "vested" interest, just disturbing
