Won't hurt it at all. I use my laptops on AC for weeks at a time sometimes without any problems at all.
Older Ni-Cad batteries needed to be fully discharged and recharged regularly or they would slowly lose their capacity. Modern Lithium Ion batteries do not have that problem.

My wife ran into that situation. She left the battery in the lappy and always had the power chord connected to it. When I took it on a road trip to watch a movie, the battery lasted about 20 minutes.
I contacted Dell and they asked me if I used the laptop with the battery and power connected. I knew right then there was my problem. The stupid replacement battery cost me $84.99. If you use the lappy like a desktop machine, I would be safe and remove the battery until you are ready to make it mobile.

Nothing wrong, and is actually recommended. While plugged in, your laptop will take full advantage of the power provided. Meaning it will run faster and more reliable.
The only disadvantage is the possibility of a power shortage, there is a chance your computer may be zapped.
So in summary, leave it plugged in - but use a surge protector - and run on batteries if you don't trust the electrical system in the building you are working in.

no your battery is not safe In fact it is like trying to plug a flash builb into the wall. it blows the H e ll out of it and it would do the same to the battery but not that fast. over a slow time it will weaken the battery and shorten the life my idea is to remove the battery if on A/C and then when you do not have AC when you need it put the battery in.

apparently not if it was manufactured by Sony and is on the recall list. I was amazed at how adamant Dell was about removing the batteries even though it is a "very rare problem"

it will be fine ...mine is over 2 years old and has ac power hooked to it 99% of the time ... its usually recommended to run the battery all the way out about once every two weeks to "cycle" it .... it will last longer that way.
....and despite what the "experts" say ... my manual says to cycle the li-ion battery every once in awhile.
