Since this is under Maintenance & Repairs... I would assume the question has to do with actively causing a product or item to fail... to test its limits... therefore, if you have measured correctly, you have determined its limits.
The other answers here, would be more appropriate, if this question were under philosophy, lol. In that regard...I once wrote a paper for an English class... in which we were being graded on our proper use of grammar...lol... I deliberately set out to break every single rule...in such a way that it was fairly obvious what I was doing, lol.... The teacher could not determine if any of the "mistakes" were NOT intentional... therefore, I got an 'A', lol.

The first thing you did was try. You had to succeed in trying in order to try failing. So therefore, you only succeeded, you never failed. The ONLY "failure" in life is the failure to TRY. So therefore, I say you have succeeded.

Well technically you did both...but the majority of it would be succeed because your goal was to "fail" and you acomplished that goal of failing by succeeding. (you succeeded)
