I am not sure that they do. I am assuming that you or someone you know feels this way though and that is sad. I think for many rape victims, guilt is the emotion of choice and because there are so many questions that need to be answered due to an investigation etc, one would feel as if they possibly were not believed because the same questions are constantly asked. Rape counselors and crisis counselors can help. This comes from a survivor...ME.

Because society engages in what is called the second rape. Society as a whole quickly moves to blame the victim. They do this because victims make them nervous. Because if they really believed that it happened to that person, then they'd have to accept that it could happen to them. They make you feel ashamed, like a liar. that's why a person who has been raped has to be extremely cautious in who they tell about this. Even those you trust can hurt you. It's because of their own security, THEY'RE in denial. They only traumatize the victim more. It's a horrendous cycle.

Don't feel like you're lying. Just reassure yourself that you know the truth, and that you aren't living in a fantasy world. Most people only wake up and care when it happens to them. And no one deserves for it to happen to them.

Rape is a very traumatic experience that causes complicated emotions. Many times the victim tries to explain why this may have happened to them specifically and in this process they may blame themselves for the rape when unable to find another motive.

So the feeling they experience when blaming themselves may very well be like the feeling of lying.

That's a very touchy question. I believe it comes from the fact that the woman must succumb to the rapist in order to get through the ordeal alive. When this happens, she feels as though she gave in to having sex with him and she wasn't really raped. It's a muddled sense of reality in that she agreed to let him rape her in exchange for him letting her go. She feels guilty for agreeing, therefore, she feels as though she should take some responsibility in the act.

Police interrogators often sound accusatory, and victims wonder if maybe they DID do something wrong that caused the rape. But you know what??? No matter what the victim wore or acted like, if they said no, then the ***hole perpetrator is guilty!

Cos there's so many complicated emotional issues that go along with being raped.
Also, there's a lot of disbelief that the woman is totally innocent and didn't "ask for it"
The guilt never leaves you. You always wonder if it really was your fault

Because we feel people are judgeing us for what we think we didn't do! Some people can be real jerks about it and say we deserve it. Others just don't want to hear about it!
