No, you should do a 30 percent water change and add salt for freshwater aquariums, it will kill the fin rot and encourage new growth without de-cycling your tank.

I heard from people that adding Aquarium salt, Stress Coat Water Conditioner and Melafix will do the healing. Aquarium Salt will minimise germs and bacterial in the water. Stress Coat Water Conditioner will remove any harmful chemical in the water, increase the protective film on their body, calm fishes down, heal and moisturise the body wounds abit with its Aloe Vera ingredient. Melafix is well known of it healing power in repairing damaged/rotten fins and body wounds with a strong tea-tree aroma. Mixing altogether will bring great healing process in your tank. If you wish, Pelafix can be added too as it heals the internal wounds like mouth ulcers etc.

malachite does little to help is more of a pain (green tank)--

try garlic drops..it would be my first choice!
