due to the mentality of today's society and the environment in which Charlie Brown was raised and accustomed to, his Ego and "ID" were working on the justification of his manhood within the confines of the male alter ego. Within his grasp many forms of self conscious related problems as well as the inherent conflict of his need to associate with other peers as himself brought various confusing emotions and thoughts that may have led to abandonment issues. Along with his neurotic canine in which fulfilled its fanciful dreams at the expense of Charlie Brown aroused many chaotic and sociopathic displays throughout his life, of which we are very privy to. So to summarize this telling, he allowed himself to perform in such a way because that is how Charles Schultz wrote the story.
