If you prefer natural supplements you can increase your intake of green vegetables. Dark green leafy vegetables are very good. Ampalaya (bitter melon?),spinach, malunggay (horse radish) are some few ver good sources.
Just be sure though that your anemia is only due to iron defeciency or due to recent blood loss. If not you better see a doctor for right management.

you should first find out why you are anemic as iron can be deadly if you take too much then maybe supplement with iron pills/ or food high in protein, eggs for example are a good sourse of iron as well as many veggies, and nuts but plz to be safe see your Dr. first. There are many websites to visit by condition such as the ones listed below or just put anemia in the web search bar

Chapter 23 of Let's Get Well by Adelle Davis is a goldmine of information on this subject. Also see the Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine by Murray & Pizzorno
Red wine (in moderation), blackstrap molasses, and liver are all good sources of natural iron.

The reason iron supplements are so prone to cause constipation is because most iron products are inorganic or comes from a rock (ferrous sulfate or ferrous gluconate). There is an iron supplement available that uses organic iron (ferrous fumarate) which comes from plants rather than rock.
If interested, feel free to contact me.

You really do not need an herbal supplement, you can buy regular iron pills at the pharmacy, wal-mart etc. Like the first answer, be careful they do cause constipation and turn your feces a real dark color.

Lani and Mad Roy both had excellent answers. Do be aware that iron is not absorbed well by the body in pill form. Instead, increase your intake of the meats and other sources of iron already mentioned. Molasses is another one!

Raw liver extract, 500mg. twice daily. It contains all the elements needed for red blood cell production. Also include in your diet apples, apricots, asparagus, bananas, egg yolks, kelp, leafy greens, okra, parsley, peas, plums, prunes, purple grapes, raisins, rice bran, squash, turnip greens, whole grains, and yams. Also eat foods high in vitamin C to enhance iron absorption.

Iron. Gentle iron, because it causes constipation. Also eat more protein. I'm anemic.
