Interesting answers so far. I've heard the thing about the first stall too, that's why I'm asking. I figured if everyone hears that and starts using the first, then it's not necessarily the cleanest anymore. But, it looks like not everyone is. Keep 'em coming, ppl.
Oh, and put the reasoning behind your choice too please.

The second last, I don't know why, I just have the feeling less people use it. Most people use either the first or last.

I use the handicapped stall. It's usually the cleanest & the furthest from the door. Some have their own sinks to wash your hands too. I keep 2 paper towels in my hand to open the door to the stall & the restroom door, then toss them into the trash.

I check out all 8 if they are not occupied and then select the cleanest one. I never sit on the seat and always take my own tissues. After completinmg the paper work, I then open the latch with a clean tissue as I have a fear of touching public toilet areas.

I inspect all 8 and decide which is the cleanest. My guess is it'll be #6. Some places have mens + womens + family, so it comes in handy that I have a young daughter -- the family washrooms are usually much cleaner, so I don't have to try my luck in the men's room.

I use the very last one because I think that a lot of people look through the cracks to determine whether or not the stall is empty. So, I choose the last so no one will need to walk past me.

I tend to check the 7th and 8th first to see which is cleaner, moving on to 6th and then down the line if none are very clean lol.
Assuming of course that the furthest one from the door is the one least used.
But now reading this question it looks like the middle ones are the better bet ;)

I always take the handicapped stall. If there are no handicapped stalls I will choose the last one in the row furthest from the door.

I use the first one because that's the one no one ever uses - it's supposed to be the cleanest.

Totally interesting question!
First, always the first stall initially.
Because I'm lazy.
