Why do people call the cops 5.0?

I believe its cme from when cops (in So. Cal.) used to drive Ford Mustags. They had a 5 liter engine that was commonly referred to as a "five point o", or 5.0. So now, if someone sees a cop coming, they shout "5-0"

hopefully, u were around when this show was popular but do u remember 'hawaii 5.0' the detective/cop tv series? it's slang to call the police ... 5.0.
