The Manta Ray concept car shown the first time in1962 the first "stingray" was the 1963 split window fasback It had shark like gills on the sides and dorsal rib along the whole lenght of the car. Fishy isn't it. Before that Corvette was named after a fighting sailing ship from the 16 century

The Stingray corvette was introduced to the market in 1963 and was taken off the market in 1967. It was component of the 2nd era of corvettes and was designed by Larry Shinoda. The car by itself experienced a distinctive break up in the back again window and experienced phony hood vents. Along with that it came with an indepednet rear suspention.The break up rear window was discontinued in 1964 because of to safety concerns. Eventually the hood vents had been deemed to active for the fashion and had been taken out. :)

This depends on how you spell it. Sting Ray came out in 1963 and ended in 1967. Stingray came out in 1969.
