avi is a file format for videos. Assuming you have a computer in a standard configuration you should be able to click on avi files and have them play automatically. You may however need codecs. FFDSHOW is a package of most of the popular codecs:

As for bin and cue, that is a pair of file formats used for creating images of cds and dvds. Burnatonce is an excellent piece of software for burning bin and cue files to disc:

These are usually associated with videos. If you are downloading videos certain files only play back in certain modes... avi, xvid, bin etc... The easiest way is to search on google for free downloads so that you can watch your movies.
