They're talking like there are three new planets. It's not official yet, but they expect a confirmation before too long now. So much for "My very educated mother. . ."

Well, it isn't exactly new it was discovered in 2003. Right now some people are in talks considering making UB313 a planet. Also, they're going to define what makes a planet, and are even going to re-evaluate if Pluto should remain a planet. So we may end up with ten planets when they're done, eight, or even nine excluding Pluto.

There is going to be a seminar in which 12 planets are going to agreed to be in the solar system. One of the asteriod, a moon and gaseous cloud outside that of the uranus are all likely to be accepted as planets in this seminar.
