For some reason it's not deep enough for any kind of charger (cell, laptop, anything) to fit all the way in. I'm going on a 15 hour road trip in 2 days and would definitely love to have it working! It was never a huge deal before. Any ideas what could be wrong? I don't think it's jammed, but I've never seen a car with such a shallow power supply.

look for another socket many cars have two one in the ashtray one in the dash or console some time rear ashtray cigarette lighter. Most power cigarette lighters go in two inches. Is there something in that socket a broken off cell phone plug?

I'm guessing this is a "Classic" car. Late 60s' or early seventies.

You will need to replace your receptical to accomodate the high tech. gizmos'.
