Homosexuals can stand up for their rights, appoint a leader, and declare a cival war in America. This is the only way to really change America like Martin Luthor King did for the blacks. Good Question.

Showing them we are more tolerant than they are is a good start.
Let them rant. It's hard to have a war when only one army shows up.
Hopefully after a while they will find more productive uses for their efforts.
Like most fanatic causes their real leaders are few, and when the rest get into independent thinking, they won't even have an army at all.
Trying to drive them into another camp just makes them more determined and even may make them believe their irrational ideas are correct.
Set an example yourself on how civilized people act towards each other is the best thing any of us can do.

The white trash part is all about education, we need more need based scholarships and acedemic outreach targeted at rural populations. Then those people who would ordinary be poor, isolated, and bitter will be invested in a diverse community. I was poor, republican, and totally against gays back in the day. Thanks to college I realize voting for guys like W is like choosing to keep working for a boss that won't give me a raise, makes me work unpaid overtime, and blows up all the pizza restraunts so he can get a bigger market share. As far as homophobia, I met a ton of gay people in college (I was a male cheerleader for chist's sake) and too my suprise there was a lot of stuff I could relate to with gay people, like everything besides sex with the same gender, and even then we could be together on things like how much it sucks to not get laid.
To answer your question more directly people need to be exposed to divergent viewpoints and shown that thier bullshit assumptions are false. It's hard to get that ball rolling, so free college is still my best solution.
P.S. Middle America takes too much blame for ignorance, there are a lot of dumbass people on the coasts too.
P.S.S. America needs a gay NASCAR driver, besides Jeff Gordon.

Time. Some people learn poison when they're young. Then they "grow up" (I use the term loosely) and they stop learning any more. They try to spread their poison until they die, and they can't learn. So it's a waiting game.
Luckily, that sort has gotten a lot smaller in number in the past 50 years. Things are looking up.

Why do people assume that all homophobic people are white and from the middle class?? I know people of many races and backgrounds that do not agree with homosexuality --why not mention those ethnic groups?? By the way --- we "white trash middle americans" are not homophobic we just do not agree with that lifestyle of choice! And yes, I have several gay friends --I don't agree with thier sexual preferences --but I still love to hang out with them!

Nothing can be done. It's all about tolerance. We have to tolerate other beliefs just as we ask others to tolerate our truths. And in that tolerance, they should tolerate homosexuality. If they can't, then just say a prayer for them, and get on with your life. They are not worth obsessing about. Focus on the positive. Focus on the people around you that are accepting and confirming.

nothing.
you are who you are. being a homo is considered a sin in some regligions and as such many dont like it. its also going against the rules of life.
A littler stereo example:
if you hook a RCA jac from a in set to a out, you wont get the results you want, but if you place the jacks in the correct spot, you'll see what you want to see or hear what you want to hear.
i hope that made sense.

What's ironic is that we've already won the culture war, it's just a matter of a little time, they are just too stupid to realize it.
