No. Traditionally, the bride's FAMILY pays for the wedding. But this is tradition, and not a hard and fast rule. If the bride has no family or they can't afford it, or don't approve, or whatever - then the couple themselves should pay for it. If the grooms family wants to do so, that is perfectly acceptable. But the bride alone is not to be held responsible unless she chooses to be.

You are asking if 2 people get married -
No the bride does not HAVE to pay.
It is up to the couple to decide what
is right for them.
Tradition is out the window!!
Are you asking because you want to get married
and want to know who has to pay the bill?

I agree with Crooks Gap. The brides FAMILY traditionally pays for the wedding. My only addition is that TRADITIONALLY the grooms family pays for the rehearsal dinner.

I heard that is correct ( actually the brides family). The Groom pays for the reception, tux and the "rehersal dinner" if I remember correctly. Not that much of anyone goes by that anymore. I sure didn't!

The tradition was the brides father would pay. That has been pushed by the wayside because many women are on tehir 2nd or third marriage and they are marrting later in life when they can afford it themselves.

I think both groom and bride should pay for the wedding.

It's the parents of the bride who has to pay.

Traditionally the bride's parents. But, more and more grooms are chipping in, and brides themselves. Because, it's very expensive!

US tradition is nothing but UK's. I have never heard this story. This applies only in Asia and in particular - India, China, Korea and Japan. Even other countries in Asia do not practice this.
