Stop eating when at your computer. The oils and grease from the foods on your hands leave a residue on the mouse. Otherwise, take a short break every now and then and wash your hands.

Cleaning a ball mouse is straight forward with a q-tip and alcohol. An optical mouse is even easer just wipe around the led on the bottom and clean the groove below it if your mouse has one.
A ball mouse generally picks up dust not grease.
You may have an environmental problem that needs addressing.
Grease from playing with oneself may be easier to correct than this one.
I’m assuming that your hands are clean, and you are not using half of a Big Mack bun as a mouse pad.
You should move your machine further from the kitchen, or check other devices with motors to make sure they aren’t overheating and putting oil fumes into the air.
Grease isn’t good for the rest of the machine, or you ether, except as a lubricant.
Seriously though try to find the cause and correct it.

Unscrew the circle around the ball, take out the ball and clean it with dish detergent. It will dissolve the grease. Make it sure it is completely dry before you put it back together. (and it probably wouldn't hurt to clean the little wheels inside with rubbing alcohol, too)

Use a can of air to clean out the dirt. If you have one of those old mice with the ball on the bottom, clean out the dirt with a can of air. Then take out the ball and clean it with alcohol. This always worked for me. Now I use the laser mice - no more dirt problem!

Remove the ball, and wipe it with alcohol on a cottonball. Blow out the inside with compressed air.

I would use screen cleaner/windex on the outside and alcohol and q-tip if you want to open it and clean the eye thing.
