Does it really matter as long as responsibilities are shared, needs are met etc. and they both understand each other. I think 'society' has really put a bender on the outlook.

It all depends on whether the man has grown up enough and learned how to say no.

By "society" do you mean 40 years of a hijacked Feminist movement, which has driven everyone mad (or at least testy?).
The roles have certainly gotten reversed, but I think that started about the time of Adam.

Equal legal rights? Yes.
In a healthy relationship? Show me two people reasonable and rational enough to share equality where noone needs to be the boss and I'll show you Vulcans.

Dr Laura has it figured out:

Even if I incurr the anger of feminists out there I must tell you there cannot be equality between the sexes as nature ordered a specific role for each. It is heaven's order that males should be
of an active type of energy and females of a passive type.
Feminists can argue until the cows come home...
Females out there: when will you learn that there are places where men don't want you to follow!
Ask the most enlightened male of your acquaintence.
If they tell you otherwise they are talking down on your.

Why is there any need to be a 'boss'. Whoever is more appropriate in any relationship, makes the decision.

Who makes the decision to fix the leaky faucet..? Does it really matter...

Who makes the decision as to what to do on days off or while on vacation? And, what about that big decision as what to have for dinner...??

If we all learn how to relax and enjoy life, it really doesn't matter who the boss is...

I don't think it really matters, but in my family the woman has always been the boss or the man and woman are equal. My grandmother has always been the "boss" of us all, including my grandfather. And my mom was the one who worked and my dad stayed at home......sooooo

From personal experience I agree with you, I think you have the right idea, my hubby and I believe in 50/50, that does not mean he is my boss or I am his, but we do discuss things and try to find the right solution that we can both live with without any regrets.

It is just as the old cliche says, "Behind every great man is a great woman... controlling the strings!"

Truthfully, a great family is a great team where there is mutual respect and NO boss.

those who feel the need to be the boss have the most to prove and the least going on inside. Who's the boss? God

in ancient times and many primitive peoples the Woman would rule, but men took over in the Mid-East. And the spread of christianity that was founded in the Mid-East also spread the Male ruling over the female theology.

No way, there is no equality, men are in charge.
The reason why things are so screwed up is that we insist on proving to ourselves that women are equal, in light of the evidence that women are scrweing everything up.
