There's a few other reasons she may have them. Doctor's prescribe them to regulate a woman's period, balance hormones, and of course the obvious...prevent pregnancy.
Something tells me, I don't quite think it's the first two reasons, and neither do you. No sex in a year is an awfully long time and then add in that you aren't getting along? I'd start asking some other, more obvious questions.

The pill is used for medical reasons other than preventing pregnancy. The pill is full of hormones and some women take it to regulate a period. They can take it if they are low on estrogen. Why don't you ask your wife why she is taking it. Maybe she is taking it to prevent pregnancy if you aren't getting along too well. A baby can just make things more complicated.

I used to take the pill for 3 different reasons back when I was young and sexually inactive.
Regulate period - because having my period every 2 weeks was no fun at all.
Period pains - Doctor said it would lessen the pain (started to wear off after a year of use)
Ligthen blood loss - because I used to bleed heavily.
It wasn't a very strong pill (loestrin 30/40 or something?) and it did work.
Are you concerned that she's cheating on you? Why don't you talk to her about if she is, or ask her about why she still uses the pill.

I have severe migraine headaches, the change in hormones causes headaches for me.... I take birth control pills to regulate my hormones, and also my periods. There are valid medical reasons for taking these pills, not just to prevent pregnancy...

Yes, I took birth control pills originally because I was having something dysfunctional ovulation sydrome. I wasn't ovulating every month and I would end up having a month long period. My grandmother was taking them at one point with something to do with her hormones and my mom was taking them to reduce her fibroids. My cousin took them to help her reduce her painful cramps, my friend took them so she only had a period four times a year. It does sound fishy that she wouldn't have said anything about the medical issues she may be having to start taking the pill or mentioned to you why she was taking the pill.

YES! Birth control pills will help a woman if her cycle becomes irregular or if she is developing problems such as cysts or severe cramping. I had a tubal ligation 7 years ago and have been on bcp since then.

It helps with PMS symptoms, regulates period, helps with acne and helps with cramps during the period.
Lots of teens are taking the pill for these reasons.

Yes, to regulate her period, for ovarian cysts, it may help acne, it may cut down on too much bleeding during her period. BC pills are simply hormones and they regulate hormonal levels in the body.

Yes, I take them for regulation. I also have to take Prozaq. Not because I am crazy, but I have mood swings every month.
