It's a really special gift to look at people from the inside and not from the outside. May not be that church goers are phony, could be that the world is hypnotized to believe what society thinks is correct or incorrect. When you have that gift, it's because God has showed you what real love and peace is.
Ignore it, just remember many people don't have a problem with Shaq and his wife, Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith, etc.

Because they're the ones who voted for Bush!! (lol)
No, seriously, it's because most of our fellow citizens have lost the idea of what it means to be human. They're not quite sure, if there's a difference between a man and a monkey. Some of it, is also fear. They see other human beings, by the color of their skin, and not as human beings. So, they're alienated from the idea of a love towards mankind.
I know what you mean by "inter-racial", but personally, I don't believe in "races", as how it's usually defined. There's many different cultures, languages, traditions etc, but the fellow on the other side of the planet, as similar concerns and hopes, as you or I.
I once knew a black Baptist preacher in Oklahoma, who converted a Grand Dragon of the KKK!! Now, that's LOVE!!

No, I don't get it. My husband and I finally found an open and affirming church that thinks different is good. We finally have breathing space. In my opinion, many people forget the whole message behind Jesus' teachings of "Love thy neighbor as yourself" and jump on the hypocritical bandwagon. To be truly like Jesus is to commune with those viewed as outsiders and to see them as human beings that deserve our love and respect. Not change them to fit into someone's view of how one should act. Incidentally, you just described my in-laws and husband's siblings to a T.

Yes. Church is just a small reflection of society. They are no different than anyone else. Everybody that attends church is not holy; Just like everybody that attends school is not smart.

As human beings we have emotions which get in the way of what it good/right. It is hard, but you have to look past the people and look to God.
