Tips for homework?

Oh yeah well i need some help with a problem. yeah i think im stuck

well ok the problem is

16-3(m-7)= -14

yeah well it get stuck after the splitting part or something

I am a math whiz and once you solved the problem, remember to go back and check your answer. If the answer doesn't solve the problem, you have the wrong answer.

Remember whatever you do on one side of the equal sign you MUST do on the other side to keep it balanced!!!

16 - 3(m-7)= -14
Making more sense of the question...
+16 - 3(m -7)= -14

*-16+16*- 3(m-7)= -14 -16 = - 30
*16 cancels out on left side -16+16=0*

-3(m-7)= - 30
**-3(m-7)/-3**= - 30/ -3
divide each side by - 3, this will cancel out on left side

(m-7)= 10
(m - 7) + 7 = 10+7
m = 17

Hopefully you know the rules when adding, multiplying, etc. with intergers. And when solving for a variable (m, x, b, whatever) you must get it by itself on the side of the equal sign that it's on. Everything that is on that side with it, you have to do the opposite to BOTH sides to get it by itself.

Anymore questions, please post. I miss algebra and geometry. I need to use my brain for fun stuff.

To check your answer:
16 - 3(17-7)= -14
16 (-3x17 -3x -7) = - 14
16 + -51 +21 = -14
16 + -51= - 35 + 21 = -14
-35 + 21 = -14

16-3m +21 = -14

second: combine like terms

37-3m = -14

third: isolate the variable (in this came m)

-3m = -51

last: solve for m

m = 17
