urban outfitters is very retro store, also forever 21 is a really cool retro store. if you want like really vintagey stuff go to a flea market and u might find a cute dress, or possibly 50's type fabric and if you are good at sewing you could sew yourself a dress. on the cheaper end, find a second hand store near you and they should have some cool retro dresses. happy shopping!

Readers ask," Does anyone know where to get some retro dresses, like 50's style'

superbooks.org ANSWERS:

1. Salvation Army thrift stores
2. your grandmother's house

3. Ask at the seniors center and see if someone has an extra dress.
4. the high school or college drama or theatre department
5. All the halloween stores..the costume stores have those kinds of dresses along with all sorts of costumes.
6. GOOD WILL stores - thrift stores

7 . check the garage sales and stoop sales this summer.
8. Look in your attic or your mom' s attic

9 . the vintage stores in New York City .

10. Go online and check ebay and do a search for dresses.

11. Go to church rummage sales. They have lots of those dresses .
12. Last but not least, but most expensive --check all the antique stores and vintage stores in large cities.

13. Go to 37.com and put in a search for antique dresses, and or go to refdesk.com and read allthe listings. You probably wlil find some help there.

14. Ask your mom or grandmom do they know of any family members, like aunts etc. who might have some extra clothing in their wardrobes.

15. Go to TJ MAXX or target stores. Those two stores have unique clothing all the time --especially TJ MAXX. And TJ's has one of a kind, not usually more than one of a kind on most of it's items, so your dress will be unique.

That's all I can think of, OR you can ask the question here and say, hey , email me if you have the clothing for sale.

Go to a good will store..or salvation army.. you will be surprised on what you can find there.. If you don't find a 50's dress .. find a dress with a big skirt and buy ..tulle (fabric)..and attache it to the inside. At fabric stores they also sell those poodles from the 50's..ready to iron on.. and that's it.... Not too hard!

There's a lot of thrift stores that are more like costume stores that sell a lot of things like that. In fact, a costume store would be the best.
