Put some bleach or ammonia (not both) into the wash.

Does your water smell musty too? If the water smells it's the water. If it's the clothes, you either aren't using enough soap, are not putting them in the dryer soon enough, or if they are light maybe you should use warm/hot water. For the dishes add a lilttle bleach. Your dish cloths probably have grease or vegetable oil in them and normal washing is not removing it and it is getting rancid. By washing them with your regular detergent and adding baking soda or borax or some ammonia or vinegar to the rinse water you may be able to remove the rancid smell.

your wash machine needs cleaning. start with the filter. and remove the washed items immediately after the wash, dont leave them lying around damp, that will cause the sour odour

bacteria, damn, oh, yuck, BLAH...a sponge or washcloth is like bacteria heaven, always damp full of food. Soak the offender in hot water with a little bleach added to it, rinse often in this solution and it will always stay fresh(ish). also remember to buy the cheap ones often...

Sounds like you need to drain your hot water heater, shut off the electric and drain it and flush it out, sediment in the heater can cause that really bad!

put them in the microwave (YES) wet, for about 2 min. this will kill all the bacteria that is causing the smell. then switch your laundry detergent to tide. it is the only one i know that will kill the bacteria.
