It depends on what you're doing. I prefer laser printers for multiple prints (bulk) if I am in a hurry. I prefer color laser for brochures and nice flyers in bulk. Ink jet printers are good for photos, and small amounts of copies and the like. You can still do the brochures and other things with the ink-jet, but it is much slower and costs a lot for ink. Photos are great with ink-jet, but for photos with printing on the same page, laser-jets are good, as long as you do high volume. That's when laser-jets are most user-friendly; lots of work. I use both types, and found these reasons are what I came up with while using the different printers. Just whatever you do: DON'T GET HP ALL-IN-ONE PRINTERS. You'll live to regret it. They are the most worthless pieces of s**t printers ever made! I've owned many of them, always hoping they finally changed and started making good ones, but every single one of them never lasted long at all. The newest one I bought never did work right from day one. That's how s**tty they are. One time, I didn't use one of my all in one's during the holiday and when i got back from break, it wouldn't work and never did from that point. I had to get another one (which didn't last either). So remember: don't buy HP all in ones.

You are going to get the highest page yield out and the best value out of a monochrome laser printer without question.
Samsung make a phenomenal printer the ML-2010, it is incredibly reasonably priced and ideal for home use.

Laser is better, better quality printing, BUT bear in mind, the upkeep for a laser is more expensive than the inkjet, I use the Lexmark X1100 Series All-in-One. It does just as good as any printer out there, and it scans to pdf, word, Notepad, etc. and Beautiful Colored Pictures, I got it on sale at Wal-Mart in Kentucky for $45.00, and I use "Universal Inkjet Refill Kit", I get to refill the Lexmark Cartridges for pennies.... Ooooorah!!!!!!!
