Do you think that all really talented artists are eccentric?

By the way--I do not mean eccentric to be taken as something negative.

Yes.!

~~ In my opinion it is a must. Why? Because eccentric implies odd, different, apart from the pack. To be a good artist you must be able to see with your eyes in a way that has never been done before; think and relate to the world from a fresh point of view, and then translate your impressions into a form that tries to teach the world a new truth.

~~ If you are common person with extraordinary skill and technique, your work can be 'good', but not great... a genius, with no technique, can ocaisionally be great, but seldom can sustain it.

~~ So, to be a 'talanted artist' you must be two things -

1) an artist, as in you must have done the work and learned the techniques - to then be able to move beyond the status quo

2) an individual, yourself, someone in search of the meanings in between -- an eccentric!

I think that most are forced to be because they got people hating on them all the time and tabloids always making up bad stuff about them. I think you have to have quite an eccentric attitude to put up with all the nonsense that you will take on.

Most talented artists are living in their own world of creativity which usually makes them appear eccentric. However, because they are such individualists and are so unique in their talent, they are quite normal in fact.

many follow the beat of their own drum. it may come from a practice schedule, the fact that they may be "one tracked" on their subject and distant from other areas of their environment. if this spells eccentric, then yes, but then so are we.
