a gland or THE gland? WHAT? It used to be considered the master endocrin gland, but now they consider the hypothalamus as the master

Many basic functions of other glands depend upon the secretion of many of the pituitary gland's hormones. If the pituitary did not function properly then those glands would not work, therefor, that is why the pituitary gland is considered the "Master Gland."

A gland is an organ that releases substances like hormones or fluids. The pituitary is an endocrine gland....it releases its products directly into the bloodstream.
