Unfortunately, that is exactly what's happening, List. There are a lot of USA soldiers right now in Iraq who are not citizens, and were in the country illegally. But you can bet that it didn't matter at all to the recruiters, who signed them up for the infantry divisions.... It's always been that way, and still is.

You cannot send the illegals, because once you enlist them, they're no longer illegal.
Your suggestion is not really facetious. Its just practically impossible.
Its a really good idea though. Legalise illegals who enlist and fight in the wars of our choosing. Those who survive, get a hut in Brokeback Mountain.

Sorry, but right now we have an all-volunteer
military service. We don't pick out who to send.
When and if things get worse, then this may
also change.

There are foreign nationals in our military and they, along with their immeidate family, are granted citizenship upon their honorable discharge. The immeidate family of a soldier that is killed is also granted citizenship.
