I applied, no essays, very little extra curricular, good ACT scores and GPA help.

I applied to the University of Illinois at Chicago the year it opened and was accepted...I wasn't a "brainiac" but had good solid B's and A's in High School. These days it's tougher but you shouldn't have too much trouble getting into a state College or University. If you're shooting for Brown, Yale, Vassar, MIT, etc., then you'll have to have "killer grades". However, a well-rounded student can be an asset to any forum of higher education. Keep motivated and have Faith!

What you need to do varies a lot between "good" schools, "highly selective" schools, and "Ivy" schools. If you want to go to good schools and just get accepted, "good" grades and test scores along with decent extracurriculars and essays will suffice. At highly selective schools you have to have the whole package of being an excellent student academically, highly involved in extracurriculars, and a student leader. In addition to those things you also have to write a good essay and have good recommendations. For Ivies you typically need something more unique and sensational that you've done to really make yourself stand out.

Obviously there is no cookie-cutter package for ANY college. My advice is to try as be as well-rounded as you can, find things you are passionate about and really get involved in those areas and do as much as you can.

If you aren't interested in Ivies still strive to stand out among your classmates in one way or another. This will help you land scholarships. :)

Good, well-rounded students are those usually chosen by colleges. Make sure your grades/GPA are good, you do extra-curricular activities or have community involvement, jobs also look really good. If you can show that you can hold a job and consistently make good grades, it is a sign of maturity and dependability. I would especially consider this if you haven't had a lot participation in clubs/school organizations. I did these things and was accepted to every school I applied.

A lot depends on ur high school grades. Also it does help if u have done other activities such as sport or volunteering. But the main thing that my college looked at was my cumulative gpa for high school. Which was an ok grade it was 3.333. (I slaked my junior year). Its very helpful to talk to ur advisor at the high school and tell them about ur school and what they think that you should do. It also depends on what school you want to attend. But its always good to experience sports and volunteering etc to boost ur resumes and applications. Good Luck!

Grades are obviously the highest contributer. Depending where you apply, sports and extra ciriccular activites may play a major role also. I think as long as you try your best in high school, whatever colleges accept you will be good for you. Good luck :)

- Academics. This means GPA, standardized tests, AP scores
- Well-roundedness: volunteerism, clubs, athletics, other interests> what else are you involved in?
-Leadership
-The application: revise your essay, and a good recommendation letter can tip the decision in your favor . Be honest.
-Schools also look for diversity: what can you offer that is different from other students to enhance the campus culture?

just as long as you have decent grades (don't kill yourself trying to get a 4.0) you can go far in life by showing that you have a personality. the people that i see failing in life are those who cannot communicate and generally interact in society
