It should.
It's not any worse than alcohol and/or tobacco.

Not to mention it actually has medicinal benefits.

I've never known a pothead to start a fight or get into an auto accident while high. I have on the other hand known of many many drunk driving deaths in my area , not to mention violence due to alcohol.

Making it legal wouldn't make me smoke it anymore than I already do, which is very rarely :)
But still, there isn't any reason for pot to be illegal. It is not a 'gateway' drug. It's not addictive and people who smoke it usually stay with just the pot.

The government are hypocrites. Why should they legalize cigarettes when weed, pot etc. is not? Because they need money for taxes. Either ban smoking or legalize drugs.

I think it should be legalized..........IF there could be a way to control wrongful growth by individuals. I think if our world could make money from it, then do it. I know there's a lot more to it than that. And there areso many people in the world being "busted" for illegal growing that it's easy to see that IT IS hard to control it. Maybe individual growers could become hemp farmers and work with the government as to sales and profit. I think if it could better our country's economy, it should be looked into. Good question.

Drug prohibition does more to make Americans unsafe than any other factor. Just as alcohol prohibition gave us Alcapone and the mafia, drug prohibition has given us the Crips, the Bloods and drive-by shootings. Consider the historical evidence: America's murder rate rose nearly 70% during alcohol prohibition, but returned to its previous levels after prohibition ended. Now, since the War on Drugs began, America's murder rates have doubled. The cause/effect relationship is clear. Prohibition is putting innocent lives at risk.

What's more, drug prohibition also inflates the cost of drugs, leading users to steal to support their high priced habits. It is estimated that drug addicts commit 25% of all auto thefts, 40% of robberies and assaults, and 50% of burglaries and larcenies. Prohibition puts your property at risk. Finally, nearly one half of all police resources are devoted to stopping drug trafficking, instead of preventing violent crime. The bottom line? By ending drug prohibition Libertarians would double the resources available for crime prevention, and significantly reduce the number of violent criminals at work in your neighborhood. http://www.lp.org/issues/lp-oss.shtml

Granted this is including all drugs, not just pot, but the principal is the same.

Some additional reasons pot should be legalized are

While it I don't advocate driving while under the influence of any substance, you never hear of anyone getting stoned and wiping out a family. That can't be said for the alcohol, the legal, accepted, and most widely abused drug.

You can't smoke yourself to death, but you can drink yourself to death.

The US stands apart from COUNTLESS other nations on the use of marijuana. The Declaration of Independence speaks of every citizen's right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." The Constitution and Bill of Rights go further, making specific guarantees. They forbid the government to make unwarranted entry into dwelling places. (http://www.studyworld.com/newsite/R...arijuana-92.htm )

Legalizing marijuana will finally end the mixed messages teenagers currently hear and allow a credible condemnation of illicit drug use.

Marijuana, as far as I am aware, has never been used to facilitate a "date rape". Unlike alcohol.

You can kill a cow and eat it, but you can't pick a plant and smoke it.

There are many more reasons, but anyone who needs them is obviously too narrow minded to ever accept the truth. Much more information can be found at www.norml.org

I have written a very lengthy paper on this subject.
1) Marijuana is not physically adictive
2) No one has ever died of marijuana overdose
3) It is totally natural, with no chemical additives
None of those are true of cigarettes or alcohol, which are legal!
No, I would not smoke it either way.

There are so many reasons why it should be decriminalized, if not legalized..Here are just a few..

1)medicinal usage
2)Alcohol is worse
3) The reason it was made illegal is because of the textile industry being afraid that hemp would take away their business etc.

For medicinal purposes, for sure, some diseases have no other help. I probably wouldn't but.. atleast I wouldn't feel so torn if I knew someone was doing it
