Bulimia, also called bulimia nervosa, is a disorder in the eating disorder spectrum. Bulimia is characterized by episodes of secretive excessive eating (bingeing) followed by inappropriate methods of weight control, such as self-induced vomiting (purging), abuse of laxatives and diuretics, or excessive exercise.

Anorexia nervosa is one type of eating disorder. More importantly, it is also a psychological disorder. Anorexia is a condition that goes beyond out-of-control dieting. A person with anorexia initially begins dieting to lose weight. Over time, the weight loss becomes a sign of mastery and control.

Bulimia nervosa, more commonly known as bulimia, is an eating disorder. It is a psychological condition in which the subject engages in recurrent binge eating followed by an intentional purging. This purging is done in order to compensate for the excessive intake of the food and to prevent weight gain. Purging typically takes the form of:

vomiting
inappropriate use of laxatives, enemas, diuretics or other medication
excessive exercising
fasting

Anorexia nervosa is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes an eating disorder characterized by low body weight and body image distortion. Individuals with anorexia often control body weight by voluntary starvation, purging, vomiting, excessive exercise, or other weight control measures, such as diet pills or diuretic drugs. It primarily affects young adolescent girls in the Western world and has one of the highest mortality rates of any psychiatric condition, with approximately 10% of people diagnosed with the condition eventually dying due to related factors according to some studies. Anorexia nervosa is thought to be a complex condition, involving psychological, neurobiological, physiological and sociological components.

Anorexia is an illness that makes the patient feel / see himself fat no matter how slim he/she would be and induces the need to get slimmer, which means no food, so no eating.

Bulimia on the other hand means the patient wants to get slimmer but for some reason is not able to stop eating, like anorexics (cause of lack of self control - loves food, parent supervising, etc), so the only alternative is eating and vomiting.

At times, they come together (have a friend which is anorexic, and tried throwing up also, but can't do it)

Both Anorexics and Bulimics throw up... Bulimia is a binge eater...they will eat lots of food... to the point of really overeating... then they induce vomiting to throw up... Anorexics eat only small portions of food... they "nibble"... then they will also induce vomiting... Both do not keep to a regular schedule of eating... they eat when they choose to no matter the time of day... Bulimics will hide the amount of food they binge on... and pretend to close family members they do not really eat much... then they will sneak food and binge... then induce vomiting. Anorexics on the other hand will sit at the table and nibble and if they snack they will immediately look for a bathroom to go and induce vomiting. Vomiting caused excoriation to the esophagus and will damage the tissue... which can lead to cancer... if it is done over a long period of time...

They are both bad...

Bulimia - involves eating to the point of excessive and then throwing it up by usually sticking your finger down your throat. It can also involve taking large amounts of laxatives and pooping it out.

Anorexia - They don't eat at all. Or maybe they might just a glass of water and a carrot stick. They also think they are fat when in fact they could be as skinny as a skeleton. Just think Nicole Ritchie she is the face of Anoerexia.

Personal expereince.. . I'm about the same height as Nicole Ritchie and I got down to 37kg (about 2kg lighter than Nicole). I use to think I was fat every time I looked in the mirror even though I was in fact fading away.

Both of these are dangerous habits. Anorexic people don't eat for unreasonable fear of gaining weight. Bulimic people force themselves to throw up after eating. Bulimia can case ulcers in the throat. Either way your body needs nutrition to survive!
