Because they don't really want to. At the national level, neither of the current ruling parties want to enforce it - though they will pay lip service to border security because they know most of the people want it. Republicans want to keep the low wage jobs and the Democrats want the illegal voters. That doesn't leave much choice for voters except choosing a third party.

It's a financial concern, do you realize how expensive a actual effective enforcement oif the border would cost? Even so, many illegal immigrants don't get here via the cliche act of jumping the border. Many get visas to the US and overstay their term and end up living here.
Besides, where would the politicians get people to mow their lawns?

Why don't you go out there and guard it with your large head. At least we can rid you of ridiculous and time wasting questions (more like comments in your case) at Yahoo answers!
By the way we all know that you are the same person as John Skerry. Idiot!

Its not politically correct for them to do so.They are more concerned with public opinion than protecting our borders. Not only the southern border but we get alot of Arabs coming into this country from canada. And when we do catch illegals, judges let them loose.

The majority of people in Congress are extremely wealthy. Without illegal immigration many corporations will lose money, thus making their stock price go down. Do you really think Congress would allow that to happen? Grow up.

It's all about money. That would require millions, possibly even billions of dollars. In addition, you'd be paying $200 for a head of lettuce.
